You Heard It Where?: Chuck Berry

by Sammi Dittloff on October 20th, 2007

After looking at several sites, I have compiled a list of places you may have heard Chuck Berry songs. Keep in mind any list will probably be pathetically incomplete, since Chuck Berry has been around for so long, and his songs are definitely eternal. Nonetheless, here are a few places to start.

  • Cars: Alright, so, I’m a sucker for all Pixar movies. They are the greatest computer animated movies out there, no doubt, and Cars was one of my favorites. Obviously, a Chuck Berry song involving cars would be used in the movie, and on here, you can hear “Route 66.” Get your kicks and watch this movie!
  • Pulp Fiction: The scene: A restaurant with Uma Thurman and John Travolta. The event: A twist contest. The song: “You Never Can Tell.” Worth seeing, no doubt.
  • American Graffiti: The ultimate movie for Americana and nostalgia, brought to you by George Lucas, and chock full of amazing music. Among this amazing music, you can find both “Almost Grown” and “Johnny B. Goode.” For rockabilly music in general, and great 50’s tunes, American Graffiti is a pretty great resource, and enjoyable as well.
  • Jingle All The Way: Okay, so this is faarrrr from my favorite movie. Also, I’m not the hugest fan of Christmas music. However, the song “Run Run Rudolph” is in this movie, and I think that’s just great. Not sure it’s worth watching Arnold Schwarzenegger running around acting stupid, but whatever, I guess if you have nothing to do over your winter holidays, it’s worth a look?
  • Other Appearances of “You Never Can Tell”: The list of movies where this song appears is so long, so I thought I’d put it all together here. Beverly Hills Cop, Streets of Fire, License to Kill, Out of Africa, Back to the Future, Cape Fear, The Sting, and Love Story. Give these movies a look-see, why dontcha?
  • Heavy Traffic: I’ve never heard of this movie, not gonna lie, so no commentary, but I know you can hear the song “Maybellene.” Yeah. That’s  about it. Well, the song also appears on Fritz the Cat, but make sure you’re old enough to see that one. Please. Cartoons can be deceiving.
  • Home Alone 3: For a relatively new movie, this flick features some old tunes, like Chuck Berry’s “School Day” and “Almost Grown.” I guess it’s a good replacement for not having Macaulay Culkin.

Like I said, incomplete, but a good start for finding great Chuck Berry music in those movies you love so much.
