Trivia: Jerry Lee Lewis

- Jerry Lee Lewis’ Nickname? As if his cool real name wasn’t enough? It’s “The Killer.” Someone at work actually gave me that nickname….but for some reason I think mine was in jest…
- Hall of Famin’ it: Jerry Lee Lewis was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986….and is recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, since he was one of the pioneers of the genre.
- 100 Greatest Artists of All Time: Rolling Stone may have not placed him as high as Chuck Berry, but he still made #24 on their list of “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.”
- Devil Music?: So, Jerry Lee Lewis got kicked out of school because he was playing “devil music” in a holy establishment. Years down the line, someone asked him if he was still playing it, and he admitted that he was. He also said: “…But you know it’s strange, the same music that they kicked me out of school for is the same kind of music they play in their churches today. The difference is, I know I am playing for the devil and they don’t.”
- How to celebrate a 41st Birthday Party: Step 1, invite some friends. Step 2, play around with a gun you didn’t know was loaded. Step 3, aim it at a coke can and pull the trigger. Step 4, have it ricochet and injure your bass player. 1976, what a good year for maiming band-mates.
- Talk about releasing albums: Jerry Lee Lewis has put out albums from 1956 to 1986, and still tours to this day. (And no, I’m not crazy enough to put such a discography on my blog this week…)
