Soundtrack Special: Everything Is Illuminated

by Sammi Dittloff on March 30th, 2008

Who knew that Ukranian music would be the hit music soundtrack to my summer? Well, it was. After I saw Everything is Illuminated, I immediately attached myself to the story and to the soundtrack. It’s how I first got into Gogol Bordello as well, a great band, if I do say so myself. Anywho, the movie is great, with Elijah Wood as the main character, a little more twitchy than his previous roles, forced to rely on some anti-Semitic Ukranian people to find out more about his Jewish ancestors. Totally winning. Did I mention that the dog’s name is Sammy Davis Jr. Junior? “Zvezda Rok-N-Rolla” is probably my favorite track, if I had to choose.

I haven’t seen this movie yet, but since it features the awesome Gogol Bordello, I NEED to see it soon. Check out the band 17 Hippies if you like GB. They’re more straightforward klezmer music, but still equally as good!
