New Artist Monday: The Graduate

by Sammi Dittloff on December 17th, 2007

Okay, all you crazy music-loving kids, the week of The Graduate is upon us. Stay tuned for my AIM interview with Matt tomorrow, but first, the oh-so-traditional stats….

  • Name of Band: The Graduate
  • Sound: I think of it as rock with more drama, but not emo. Heavens, no. The songs are just really emotionally-charged in a very genuine way, and it’s something that audiences of many ages can appreciate. I say this because I played Anhedonia in my car with my mom, and she very much enjoyed it. That’s really what I’m basing the “all ages” thing on, and although my mom is quite hip, I believe I can stand by that. They’ve toured with bands like Ludo, Jack’s Mannequin, Spitalfield, and  The Forecast, so if that gives you a better idea of their sound, there ya go. If you have never heard of those artists but like what you hear from The Graduate, check those bands out as well, because they are definitely quality.
  • Location: Springfield, Illinois
  • Band Members:
    • Tim Moore - Drums
    • Corey Warning - Vocals
    • Matt Kennedy - Guitar/Keys
    • Max Sauer - Guitar
    • Jared Wuestenberg - Bass
  • Official Website: wearethegraduate.com
  • MySpace: myspace.com/thegraduaterock
  • You May Remember Them From Such Songs As…: Well, your college radio could have played something off of their “Horror Show” EP…otherwise, check out the songs on their MySpace. The one currently running through my head is the title track from Anhedonia. Seriously good stuff, especially the line “I don’t feel right in my skin/So I don’t feel anything at all.”
  • Next Performance: December 21st at Turner Hall with The Forecast in Quincy, IL. It’s a charity event, so if you can make it there, you definitely should. Plus, the first fifty through the door get a free Evergreen EP. Really, there is no lose to this situation.
