New Artist Monday: Flight of the Conchords

by Sammi Dittloff on January 7th, 2008

I know, this week is cheap. I’m talking about a band that I’m blogging about on my new blog, Conchord Crazy. I consider this okay, however, simply for the fact that I believe you, the public, needs to know where you can find everything I write about. My pearls of wisdom shouldn’t be hidden away, they need to be shared. With that said, I bring you the first post of quite a few on Flight of the Conchords….

  • Name of Band: Flight of the Conchords
  • Sound: Well, I guess you could call it folk in a way, which is what FOTC says about their sound. However, I think a more accurate description would be New Zealand’s answer to Tenacious D. They are not as dirty as JB and KG are, but it’s almost better that way. They are a little naive, a little innocent, and when you hear them come out with a little dirtier of lyrics, it makes it funnier. They aren’t trying to shock anyone. They’re just trying to make people laugh. These songs may be kind of jokes within themselves, but they are well-written, very clever, and catchy as all get out. Believe me. Ask my parents who hear me singing them all day long. Ask my boyfriend. However, don’t blame it on me. Blame it on the duo.
  • Location: New Zealand…but on the HBO TV show they have moved to Queens, NY.
  • Band Members:
    • Bret McKenzie - Vocals, Guitar
    • Jemaine Clement - Vocals, Guitar
  • Official Website: conchords.co.nz
  • MySpace: myspace.com/conchords
  • You May Remember Them From Such Songs As…: Well, gee, anything on their new HBO TV show. My favorites are “If You’re Into It,” “Foux Du Fafa,” and “Not Crying,” but really, they’re all top-notch.

Instead of writing more about the duo, I’ll tell you than an ongoing bio chronicling them and everything about their HBO show is going on at my other blog, Conchord Crazy. So, why don’t you give it a look-see? Today I’m talking about the first episode, so learn about it, watch it, revel in its amazing hilarity.
