My Guilty Pleasure Post: 10 Songs That I Should Be More Embarrased About Liking
Alright, so I’ll admit, there are some songs that I like listening to….and maybe I shouldn’t like listening to them. However, what may be the guiltiest thing about all of this is that this list was incredibly hard to narrow down. I decided to post 10 songs that I’ve listened to most recently that I don’t like to admit liking. This was very hard for me, so I expect all of you to keep an open mind and post here with your most embarrassing song likes….please?

- There’s A Good Reason These Tables are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet - Panic! At the Disco
So, alright, I may or may not like listening to Panic! At The Disco from time to time. They’ve got catchy songs, you’ve gotta admit, and some of the lyrics are too tragically hip for words. There’s something about them, and I just can’t keep away. The lyrics that got me with this song? “Haven’t you heard that/I’m the new cancer/Never looked better and/You can’t stand it.” In your face.

- Lonely - Akon (or Bobby Vinton, haha)
Truth be told, I like both versions of this song. I listened to “Mr. Lonely” ad nauseum, the Bobby Vinton version, when I was a desperate middle school who desired romance, even if it was heartbreak. When “Mr. Lonely” by Akon came out, I was crazy excited, because, wow, it’s that song that I listened to so much, and now I have a way to kind of listen to it without seeming so lame. Looking back on it, either version is pretty lame. But man, I really like Akon’s voice, and I think I always will. Deal.

- Stop - Spice Girls
Okay, so maybe I haven’t listened to this song in a while, but it’s a song that I will always remember and cherish because of fond elementary school memories. I will also always remember the chorus. This was tested about a month ago at my sorority’s formal, while we were at dinner. And yes, I remembered it all. I was quite proud, but not too proud. This is why it makes my list. (By the way, the chorus is, without me looking at lyrics online: “Stop right now, thank you very much/I need somebody with the human touch/Hey you, always on the run/Gotta slow down baby, gotta have some fun.” P.S.: Do you remember the hand move that the Spice Girls did while they were singing live? Yeah, me too.)

- Every Time We Touch - Cascada
Aaargh I’m so sorry that I had to put this on my list, but I look on this song rather fondly. It reminds me of senior year, and the cast parties that made that year so great. We would jump up and down, pantomime any lyrics we could, and sing at the top of our lungs. It. Was. Incredible. I have no idea how stupid I looked dancing to this song, but I thought I was awesome, and that’s all that really matters. This song rocks, but more for the memories than the song itself.

- Technologic - Daft Punk
I’m not even sure this should make my “guilty pleasures” blog, because I don’t feel bad in the last for liking this song. However, it’s not a song that someone would expect me to listen to as much as I do. I just really really love this song. Plus, I took a line dance that I learned years ago and applied it to this song. That’s probably what makes it a guilty pleasure, more than just the song itself. Yeah, the fact that I took a techno song and put a country dance to it, that makes me feel a little wrong.

- This Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race - Fall Out Boy
Not gonna lie, there’s nothing like belting out to this relatively un-Fall Out Boy-like Fall Out Boy song. Ahhh emo-pop bands, how I can’t get enough of thee as a guilty pleasure. I love everything about this song, especially the ballsy take on singing (finally!) and the stuttering of “p-p-p-p-parties.” Just everything, I don’t even know, I just love it, and I’m a little ashamed to admit it, but this song is hot. The music video, also great. That’s all. Freaking love it.

- Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Like I said, I really like emo-pop bands, but there’s a specific reason why I really really like this song. It reminds me of something much more epic, like Queen. And man, I loves my Freddy Mercury. There is something about the march, parade-like feel of this song in the beginning that really gets me on that old, majestic, 70’s rock opera feel. I’m not sure. It’s just really tight. When it speeds up, I lose a bit of interest, but the beginning makes up for it. It really does.

- Here (In Your Arms) - Hellogoodbye
Yet again, a song I don’t really feel sorry about liking. I dare you to not feel good and warm and fuzzy after listening to this song. Also, if you can listen to this without moving, you are either dead or have no soul…..or maybe you’re paralyzed, and if that’s the case, my apologies. Regardless, if you could move, you totally would. It’s impossible for me to not get into this song and just feel happiness wash over my body. “I like where we are/When we drive in your car/I like where we are/Here.” So simple, and yet so beautiful. The music video is also really great. It’s all about love at summer camp. Yay summer camp!

- Move Your Feet - Junior Senior
This is honestly the closest to disco that I will ever get. Generally, I am very opposed to disco, and I guess the only way I can say that this isn’t disco is that it is a recent song, and not something that was released in the 70’s, but really, it’s disco. But wow, Junior Senior is a great guilty pleasure. You feel like such a lamezor listening to it, but at the same time, a smug sense that you are cooler somehow for listening to it, if that makes sense. Listen to this song and get back to me.

- Boyz - M.I.A.
I guess M.I.A. is getting a lot more popular now, so this should also be something I’m not overly ashamed of, but there really isn’t much to this song, except her saying “Na na na na na na” a whole lotta times, and “hey now” and whatever else. There’s something about the beat that’s really catchy though, and it’s something that is prevalent in a lot of her songs. (This is my way of saying that there are other songs of M.I.A.’s that I like as well) This is a great clubbing song, or something awesome to dance to when you’re in your room alone and are feeling particularly badass. Do it, you will not regret it. Now that I’ve admitted it, I’ve made it okay for you!
There are many more that belong on this list. Sad, isn’t it? Well, maybe we’ll have another guilty pleasures blog, and then you’ll see just how much repenting I have to do…
