Honors: Chuck Berry

by Sammi Dittloff on October 19th, 2007

Thanks to Wikipedia and Chuck Berry’s official website, I’m able to provide you with some little tidbits on various honors that Chuck Berry has received over the years. Enjoy!

  • In 1986, Chuck Berry was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. As a matter of fact, he was one of the first artists to be inducted. On the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website, it says, “While no individual can be said to have invented rock and roll, Chuck Berry comes the closest of any single figure to being the one who put all the essential pieces together.” Sweet.
  •  In 2000, Chuck Berry received honors from the Kennedy Center. Some of the people that joined him? Mikhail Baryshnikov, Plácido Domingo, Angela Lansbury, and Clint Eastwood. Not too shabby, Berry, not too shabby.
  • Do you consider yourself immortal? Well, did Rolling Stone ever call you immortal? Yeah, sorry, you’re probably as not as cool as Chuck Berry. In 2004, Berry was ranked #5 in the top 50 of immortal musicians. Number five. This guy is a big deal, don’t you think?
  • As if it weren’t enough to be honored once by Rolling Stone, they did it again by putting him on the list of Top Guitarists of All Time. He got 6 out of 100.
  • Chuck Berry’s Number One Song? Surprisingly, it’s “My Ding-A-Ling,” the only song to ever hit #1 on the charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. Other #1s in the U.S. include “Maybellene,” “Sweet Little Sixteen,” and “School Days.”
