Happy Halloween! Danny Elfman Special
Alright, so this is another thing that’s going on all over the b5 music channel, so make sure to give other blogs a look! Anywho, here is my list of Danny Elfman songs you should listen to in order to get yourself into the spirit of Halloween….

- The Corpse Bride
This is something that if you haven’t already checked out, you most definitely have to, because the music is amazing. What I love the most are the tracks “Victor’s Piano Solo” and “Piano Duet.” They are filled with a ridiculous amount of emotion and they are heartbreakingly beautiful. Plus, they both end in a really humorous way. Also The Corpse Bride is a great movie for Halloween, so an ideal way to immerse yourself in this music would be to watch the movie. It’s less traditional than Nightmare Before Christmas, but come on, you get sick of that every year, right? Well, hopefully not, because I’m going to talk about it next.

- The Nightmare Before Christmas
Ah, yes, traditional Danny Elfman. There’s no way you can top it, and it’s going to be popular for years and years, no doubt. A 3D version of the movie just came out recently, so if you’ve never seen this movie, you’re not only one of the 5 people who hasn’t, but it also means that you need to go see it….tonight. So, go, it’s 3D, in theatres now, it’s Halloween, you have no excuse not to. My favorite songs? “Jack’s Lament,” “What’s This,” and “Town Meeting Song.”

- Edward Scissorhands
Ah yes, another delightful holiday-looking movie….but for the wrong holiday, most likely. This was one of the first Tim Burton/Danny Elfman collaboration movies I ever saw growing up, and I’ve loved it ever since. Johnny Depp is phenomenal, and Winona Ryder is blond. You really can’t go wrong. The songs I recommend on here, “Ballet de Suburbia,” “Death!” and “Ice Dance.” Oh yeah, Vincent Price is in this too. Can you say, “Killer awesome bonus”?

- Big Fish
This is one of the movies that can move me no matter how many times I see it. It’s beautifully done, with the most amazing stories, and you will feel great after watching it. It’s got this fantastic fuzzy feeling to it. I just love it. (Okay, maybe by now you’ve realized I love the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman combo. So sue me.) “Shoe Stealing,” “Sandra’s Theme,” and “The Journey Home” are all great Danny Elfman tracks on this CD.

- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Can’t get over this movie. Never will. Roald Dahl was one of my favorite authors growing up, so combine favorite author, favorite director, and favorite composer, and you’ve got a winning movie. Add in Johnny Depp and I’m pretty much guaranteed to love it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this movie, mostly because it’s embarrassing. Anyhow, listen to “The Indian Palace,” “The River Cruise,” and “Up and Out” for three very different musical experiences.
Happy Halloween, everyone!
