Be Your Own Pet: My Birthday Anthem

So, apparently, it was perfect timing for me to start listening to Be Your Own Pet when I did, because the very first track is Jemina Pearl singing about her 20th birthday…and my 20th was just on Saturday! (Send your gifts whenever, just email me and I’ll give ya directions….I’m so dreaming.) Anyway, part of the lyrics say “Today’s my birthday and now that I’m 20/I don’t wanna have responsibilities/I don’t wanna be a part of society/I just want to run around/I just want to party down/I just want to run around/Party down.” Amen, sister.
Not gonna lie, I’m starting to feel weird now that I can officially consider myself a “twentysomething,” although the something doesn’t really have another number after it. It still feels significantly older than 19. But, as Jemina points out, nothing truly exciting happens until one year from now. “Next year I’ll be twenty-one/So look out world, ’cause I wanna have fun/Next year I’ll be twenty-one/So look out, world, ’cause I wanna have fun!!” Word.
